ENTRY HALL WALL A - "A SENSE OF PLACE"

This is Susan's preliminary sketch of Wall A.

A Large 3-d map, approximately 5'x8', just like the map hanging at the Forest Service office but with a naturalistic color scheme, showing the area the museum's mission calls for us to serve.
This map found right of center in Susan's sketch.

The following are maps that could be shown on a digital display showing a sense of place evolving over time and with technology.
1778

1790 Cooks chart

1848 French map

1848 Russian map

1898 Abercrombie map

1902 Eastern Prince William Sound

1934 Alaska Steamship map
Detail of a 1934 Alaska Lines map insert showing Cordova, the Sound and up to Kennecott.
Not your early explorers kind of map from just one generation prior.

Also on Wall A is a name it and claim it display much like the one at MOHAI, shown below.

ENTRY HALL  WALL B  -  "WHERE CULTURES MEET"

A timeline very similar in execution, materials and layout to this one at the Suquamish Museum is what we currently are thinking of, with graphics on wall.  Several small touchscreen video displays arranged on/in the panels will have information about major events and people.

This is Susan's preliminary sketch of Wall B.

Where the Entry Hall meets Gallery 1 is a good location for something to signify entering the museum galleries.  One  candidate is a pair of totems made by Mike Webber.  They are currently displayed in Wells Fargo but are part of the museum's collection.  They or something like them
could be placed on opposite walls where Gallery 1 begins, with a sentry-like presence.
