Disaster Theatre
These images are from the MOHAI. The theatre is perhaps the most elaborate single display in the museum. It seems to be modeled after an old stage theatre from the early 20th century, around the time of the fire of its theme. In the theatre are artifacts, specialized lighting, an audio visual display and seating for several people. When I was there I didn't think it had any relevance to us as a way to create an exhibit but I have reconsidered that. It may be possible to create something similar on a smaller, simpler scale in which we can cover fires, the big windstorm, the earthquake and the oil spill, by enclosing part of the gallery next to the permanent art gallery. A darkened theatre seems like a good way to increase the emotional impact of the subject of disasters.
Coming soon are photos of various disasters from our collection
that could be included in this display.
